Wenderoth Hosts JETRO IPG Meeting

February 27, 2018

On February 23, 2017, Wenderoth hosted the 31st Intellectual Property Group (“IPG”) meeting of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), a non-profit organization that provides business support services to companies expanding to Japan.  IP practitioners handling all areas of technology attended, including chemicals, software and electronics.

Wenderoth Partner Drew Hissong presented a timely lecture on sovereign immunity for Native American tribes in inter partes review, just as the Patent Trial and Appeal Board was issuing its decision against tribal immunity in Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. v. Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.  Wenderoth Partner Doug Halm provided insight on the Duty of Disclosure requirement with historical perspective and a look to the future.  Wenderoth Partner Andrew Freistein shed light on In re: Janssen Biotech, Inc., a precedential decision by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which further defines the appropriate route to qualify for the safe harbor provision of 35 U.S.C. § 121 to avoid double patenting.  A reception for all attendees followed the lectures.  The meeting was organized by Aya Ryuno, Wenderoth’s Technical Specialist.
